It has just been announced that the Open Championship will return to the Home of Golf in 2027, giving the town just two and a half years to prepare for the event.
It seems clear that the quinquennial visitation is now firmly back on the calendar. As ever, the challenge will be transporting the huge number of spectators in and out of a town only accessible by road.
Surely this will be the last time that St Andrews has to host the championship without the benefit of a rail connection?
