The Office of Road & Rail's latest station usage figures for year-ending March 2025 published today show that Leuchars is still the 3rd busiest station in Fife, after Inverkeithing and Kirkcaldy, with passenger numbers having increased by over 10% on 2023-24 to 584,032, most of whom are travelling to/from St Andrews. Earlier this year, the Financial Times covered the controversial issue of whether Turnberry should be re-admitted to the Open Championship circuit, which it last hosted in 2009. One of the obstacles is the Ayrshire venue's poor transport links which were described as making Turnberry 'hell to get to.'
