Queues 'emphasise' need for rail link

After roadworks at Guardbridge caused Stagecoach to cancel bus services, a St Andrews councillor claimed that the problems reinforce the case for a railway to St Andrews, as reported by Jamie Callaghan in the St Andrews Citizens/Fife Herald.

Cllr Jane Ann Liston pointed out that due to only being accessible by road, St Andrews lacked resilience to traffic disruption, and observed that the new railway station at Conan Bridge was proposed, approved and built in record time to deal with a similar situation when the Kessock Bridge was closed for repairs earlier this decade. The particular concern was ensuring commuters were still able to reach work in Inverness. It is likely that the numbers involved were less than those travelling in and out of St Andrews.
