Despite most passenger numbers at Fife stations falling, Leuchars bucked the trend by increasing by 5.1% in the year ending March 2019. The numbers are published annually by the Office of Rail & Road (ORR).
The St Andrews Citizen/Fife Herald featured the story, noting that the increase, from 613,046 to 644,262, of the 4th busiest Fife station contrasted with the top 3 of Inverkeithing, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline Town, the last suffering a drop of 6.5%.
StARLink is convinced that the jump in Leuchars figures is mainly due to the increasing pull of St Andrews and is further justification for a railway to the town.
