Student paper reports on funding refusal

The student newspaper The Saint reported the lamentable failure of the North East Fife Area Committee to approve a £7000 grant to StARLink, at the instigation of 2 St Andrews councillors.
In the piece Labour’s Cllr Brian Thomson reveals his undisguised hostility to the concept of a railway, and also the fact that he has prejudged the sustainable transport study and determined its result. Unfortunately he also betrays his ignorance of the STAG process, which does not even consider routes until much further on in the process, and also that the route to which he refers was clearly marked ‘indicative’. The question has to be asked, though, that if Cllr Thomson is so certain that the project is a non-starter, why is he apparently unwilling to see the question put to the test?
