'Momentous year' - Citizen

The text of the letter in the Citizen was as follows:

The StARLink (St Andrews Rail Link) campaign has concluded a momentous year having had successful meetings with Transport Scotland, the University of St Andrews and North East Fife's new MP and constituency MSP, all of which were very encouraging. A meeting with the new Head of Economic Development at Scotrail, who has previously stressed the importance of linking small towns by rail to the cities, will take place next month.

Finishing touches are being put to an initial pre-STAG document for submission to Transport Scotland, with a view to the main STAG evaluation being carried out next year.

There can be no doubt that we are building up momentum. Our base support continues to grow - for example, since July we have attracted well over 600 Facebook 'likes' - and the case for the railway grows stronger every day. We live in an age of railway reinstatement and it is clear to StARLink that the likelihood of an entirely new St A rail link has never been greater. To this end, we will persevere with the campaign until governmental commitment is assured and a new railway is delivered for the town, solving economical, environmental and efficiency problems, as well as ensuring that St Andrews maintains its premier status in a globalised and highly competitive twenty-first century.

We have no doubt we can construct a cast-iron case and confidently look forward to making it. Thank you to all our supporters.
