50 years on - The Saint calls for return of railway

In an article speculating how St Andrews might change over the next 50 years, The Saint calls for the railway to be restored.

Alice Bessonova notes that the last train ran in 1968 - actually it was 4th January 1969 - and observes that the bus and taxi options between Leuchars Station and St Andrews are not ideal, leading to frustration caused by the feeling of ‘isolation’ in the town. ‘
Would it,’ she asks, ‘be too unrealistic to expect the train line to come back?’ We say, not at all, and indeed the first part of the appraisal of possible solutions to the traffic problems of St Andrews, which includes the railway as an option, is currently underway.
