In addition the print edition noted that the newly elected Rector of the university, Srdja Popovic included support for the railway in his campaign and quoted a spokesperson for the University as saying,

‘The University is
a longstanding supporter of the principle of St Andrews having a direct rail link again, but like many others would wish to consider the physical implications of this, its costs and affordability.’

Indeed, but should one not also consider the physical implications, costs and affordability of not building a railway?
