10% increase in Leuchars passengers

Figures issued by the Office of Road & Rail earlier this month showed that there was an increase of over 10% in the number of passengers using Leuchars railway station in 2017-18.
613,046 passengers used Fife’s 4th busiest station in the year ending March 2018, most of whom are going to and from St Andrews. Since privatisation the number of passengers has nearly trebled, with an increase of 100,000 over the past 3 years alone. At this rate Leuchars could soon overtake Dunfermline Town (696,642) as the 3rd busiest station in Fife.
All trains on the line stop at Leuchars, apart from 2 which cannot do so due to restrictions on the Tay Bridge. It is hoped that improvements in signalling might soon permit this anomaly to be rectified.
With passenger numbers like these nobody can now seriously doubt that a service to St Andrews would be very well patronised.
